BTG Web Services for Churches / Ministries
I have been involved in church ministry and leadership for nearly 20 years. I have witnessed the growth of the internet, and its effect on our lives. I have seen how people can locate a church by searching the web, and subsequently learn not just about where the church building is physically located, but about the life of the church body. People will go out of their way to visit your church if they think that you offer them something they want – or need.
Is your church friendly and welcoming? Show it on your website. Many people will go to a church if only someone would just ask them. Let your church’s website be that invitation through multimedia or simply a pastor’s welcome. People get turned off by a website that looks like it should have cobwebs in the corners. I’m talking about sites that have last month’s calendar, sermon notes from two weeks ago, outdated pictures, or ones that just never get updated.
Most every church has an ad of some sort in the phone book. How about putting your web address in your ad?
We now live in a world in which “Google” is a verb. Studies show that the internet is one of the first places people search for information and resources. What is your ministry doing to reach people? Are you going to them as well as bringing them to you? Is your ministry’s message effectively being communicated? If you currently have a website, are you using it to its fullest potential? Is it updated regularly with professional looking content? Studies show that most churches do not use the internet to its fullest potential. If someone "Googles" your church name, or your church's demonation or affiliation, what will the results be? Will they find you, or a similarly named church in another state? I can help your church get found on search engines.
Let me help you evaluate your website, or create a new website to effectively reach the same type of people for whom you are in ministry in the first place!
According to the Pew Internet and American Life Project, more than 3 million Americans log onto the Internet daily in search of spiritual guidance.
A recent Barna study shows that a majority of adults now believe that there are various biblically legitimate alternatives to participation in a conventional church.
Each of six alternatives was deemed by a most adults to be "a complete and biblically valid way for someone who does NOT participate in the services or activities of a conventional church to experience and express their faith in God." Those alternatives include engaging in faith activities at home, with one’s family (considered acceptable by 89% of adults); being active in a house church (75%); watching a religious television program (69%); listening to a religious radio broadcast (68%); attending a special ministry event, such as a concert or community service activity (68%); and participating in a marketplace ministry (54%). © The Barna Group, Ltd, 2008.
According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project
Nearly two-thirds of online Americans use the Internet for faith-related reasons. The 64% of Internet users who perform spiritual and religious activities online represent nearly 82 million Americans. Among the most popular and important spiritually-related online activities measured in a new national survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project:
- 38% of the nation’s 128 million Internet users have sent and received email with spiritual content.
- 35% have sent or received online greeting cards related to religious holidays.
- 32% have gone online to read news accounts of religious events and affairs.
- 21% have sought information about how to celebrate religious holidays.
- 17% have looked for information about where they could attend religious services.
- 14% have used email to plan church meetings.
- 11% have downloaded or listened to religious music online.
- 7% have made or responded to online prayer requests.
- 7% have made donations to religious organizations or charities.
In sum, 64% of Internet users said they had done at least one of these things online and many had done more than one.
I would like to help your church or ministry be one that people find on the internet. You then, can help THEM find the One for whom they have really been searching.
